The theories about how Jack Pearson die have been floating around for months, but Milo Ventimiglia has known the truth for a while.

We’ve known that Jack Pearson is going to die since the pilot of This Is Us. The question we’ve been kicking around in our heads since then is how will it happen?

Upon the show’s return in the fall, we’re going to finally find out. Those involved with the show already know how Jack meets his demise, but some have known longer than others. Milo Ventimiglia is perhaps the most in-the-know — and for good reason since he plays Jack on the show.

The actor told Us Weekly that he’s known for a while now how Jack dies but is preparing for it like business as usual.

"“For me, there is no preparation other than learning the lines and being open to the experience that you’ve going to have when you get on set,” he adds. “Thankfully, [creator] Dan Fogelman and all of our writers are all so crazy talented that it really is as easy as just learning the lines. The words kind of speak for themselves.”"

There’s a lot to unpack here, not the least of which is how casual Milo is approaching the death of his character.

From there we can try to decipher whether or not we will see Jack after we learn how he is killed off. Obviously learning about his death is different then seeing it. We’ve already been told various times that he’s dead and it hasn’t meant an absence in the flashback scenes.

But will Jack be gone after we see him die?

That’s the big question we will have answered in the season premiere. If we see his death rather than get told how it happens, we can probably assume that Jack won’t be going anywhere. The timelines on the show have already bounced around so it’s not unbelievable to think that we see Jack’s death then rewind to where we left off last season. That could add even more weight to the impending death than already being applied.

Jack is perhaps the most popular character on This Is Us, and how the series treats his death will be fascinating. It’s more than a case of how will they portray his death and do it justice but how will his death work into the fluid story timeline the show has presented.
