It’s well-documented that This Is Us makes everyone cry. And if it doesn’t make you cry or feel anything, then you’re probably a robot or the exhausted box of tissues aiding the weekly waterfall. But the brilliance of the NBC breakout tear-jerker doesn’t begin and end with connecting to its audience. Its cast and crew also get out of the show as much as they put into it.

Chrissy Metz caught up with the Today Show to talk about the most emotional moments from This Is Us involving her character, Kate Pearson. While she notes that the cast watches each other’s scenes, cries together, and showers each other in compliments (imagine being a part of those exchanges!), Metz isn’t the first cast member to admit to crying a few tears over the show. Mandy Moore opened up about the scenes that make her well up, and now Metz follows suit. What was the most intense scene to film? Which Kate and Toby moment was the sweetest? And which scenes resonate with women? Chrissy Metz spills the truth about her This Is Us feels.

1. When Kate breaks up with Toby.

In the eighth episode of Season 1, Kate reacts to her recent bout of binge eating by taking a necessary step back in her relationship with Toby to focus on herself. Metz name checks the scene as the most intense to shoot due to being “beautifully written” and a relatable message of putting self love first. We were applauding Kate’s good sense through the tears blurring our vision.

2. When Toby rolls out the red carpet for Kate.

As for the sweetest moment between Kate and Toby, Chrissy Metz recalls the scene from early on in the first season where Toby makes Kate a celebrity for a day. From a chauffeured SUV to playing paparazzi to rolling out the red carpet, Toby pulls out all the stops to help Kate be the star at her first singing gig. It doesn’t get much sweeter than Toby!

3. When Kate goes off during the weight loss meeting.

You’ll recall that Kate and Toby met while attending a weight loss support group, wherein people join to share their experiences with and feelings about being overweight. However, one particular woman in the group suffers from body dysmorphic disorder and an eating disorder complains about her weight.

Kate finally has enough and tells the woman how she feels. Metz says women have resonated with Kate’s frustration and determination. She also notes that we must remember that “our perception is our reality.”

4. When Kate struggles with losing Jack.

Another Kate Pearson moment that Chrissy Metz says women have resonated with is Kate’s continued grief over losing her father. Kate’s grief first comes to light in “The Game Plan,” when she reveals to Toby that she watches Steelers games with her father’s urn. Later on in the season, Kate admits to feeling responsible for and guilty about her father’s death. Metz tells Today that she has cried “many a tears in bathrooms” with women about losing loved ones.
