This Is Us star and Emmy nominee Chrissy Metz dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live and relayed Sylvester Stallone’s sage advice.

More from This Is Us

It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to rub elbows with — or much less work with — a Hollywood icon. This Is Us booked action-star legend Sylvester Stallone for a guest starring role in Season 2, which Milo Ventimiglia helped facilitate, and the cast has reaped the wise benefits. What was it like working with Sly? Chrissy Metz told Jimmy Kimmel the enviable on-set stories.

On Tuesday night, Chrissy Metz stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live, a recent hot spot for the cast of This Is Us to drop Season 2 secrets, and talked about everything from the Emmys to her love for game shows. While she wasn’t expecting her Emmy nomination in the least (rather, she focused her attention on Venus Williams’ Wimbledon set) and holds an undying love for competition, Metz walked away from her interaction with Sylvester Stallone with a new fan and a few pearls of wisdom. The pair bonded over their humble beginnings, and the Hollywood heavyweight offered Metz advice that we could all file away and take to heart.

“He said, ‘It’s so much about resilience and about having a thick skin and about just kind of continuing and pursuing even if you don’t think you’re gonna make it, and just keep going,'” Metz shared. “And obviously, I’ve been doing that.”

She certainly has! Metz, who had 81 cents in her bank account at the time of her This Is Us audition, has quickly cemented herself as a formidable talent. Last month, she landed her first ever Emmy nomination, and it will not be her last.

Metz also regaled Jimmy Kimmel with the behind-the-scenes details of her iconic on-set selfie with Sylvester Stallone. In the photo, Metz pretends to punch Sly in the face, but it was all at the Oscar-nominee’s request. Watch Chrissy Metz wax poetic about Rocky’s “skills to pay the bills” in the video clip below!

Because no This Is Us star can make it out of an interview without the topic of Jack’s death coming up, Kimmel inadvertently crossed another possibility off the list. Jack will not be killed by Rambo: That officially clears up any concerns about Stallone’s guest role.

However, it’s interesting to learn that Chrissy Metz and Sylvester Stallone will share screen time together, as it has been reported that Stallone will play himself on the series as Kevin’s co-star. How will Kate factor into the filming of their movie, and how will it tie into Jack? We’ll have to wait and see!

Until the big reveal kicks off when This Is Us returns this fall, we’ll have to revel in Chrisy Metz’s hilarious story of her pre-fame run-in with Jimmy Kimmel Live security. Metz, a Florida native and proud Gators fan, instigated a football feud with Seminoles fan Cheryl Hines. Clearly, Metz doesn’t play around when it comes to football. Wonder how she feels about those Steelers?

This Is Us returns for Season 2 on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 9/8c on NBC.
