Jon Huertas of This Is Us reveals he was once homeless, now helps instead

Jon Huertas is known for playing Miguel on This Is Us, but it turns out that he was once homeless and does a lot to help people in this situation now. 

Jon Huertas is having to win over the fans as Miguel, but now People is revealing something a lot of fans don’t know about him from his real-life past. He has been on various shows such as Castle and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

Huertas recently shared some details about his past and it turns out he was homeless when he was younger. Here is what he had to say.

"“I, at one point, for about two weeks, was in my truck with two dogs and all my stuff was in the back of my pickup truck covered in a tarp. I didn’t have a roof and I didn’t know how soon I was going to get one and all it took was me reaching out to people I know who care to get me into a different situation. That’s kind of what we have to do as a society, as a community to reach out.”"

He went on to explain how you can’t look at a person and just know from their look who is homeless and who isn’t. As he explained, some people dress nice and live in their car and others have on clothes that are tattered and then live in an apartment or house somewhere. Jon now lives in Venice Beach and said he helps out homeless neighbors by giving them something to eat or a smile if nothing else.

Huertas and former Castle co-star Seamus Dever hosted United Way’s 11th annual 5K walk/run HomeWalk recently in Los Angeles’ Grand Park, raising $1 million to fight homelessness in L.A. County. Now that he can do his part, Jon Huertas is making sure he gives back. Jon wants everyone to realize that they can give a helping hand too, just like he is to help the homeless in his area.
