When will we learn the story behind Rebecca and Miguel’s relationship?

In the preview for Season 2 Episode 12, Kevin asks about the beginning of Miguel and Rebecca’s relationship. Most of us fans are now wondering when everything between Rebecca and Miguel began!

I have always considered Miguel Rivas to be sort of a filler character. Jack Pearson needed a work buddy or a best friend. He has never had any huge moments throughout his time on the show.

Because This Is Us didn’t give me a good chance to get to know Miguel as more than “Jack’s friend”, I haven’t liked him as a part of the show. I also thought that he didn’t really fit in with the rest of the characters. To me, he’s just always been there.

When Rebecca reconnected with Miguel via Facebook nearly a decade after Jack’s death, I was pretty surprised. It did give Miguel’s character a lot more meaning though, in my opinion. If he wasn’t such an important piece in the show, he wouldn’t have lasted beyond his friendship with Jack.

Overall, Rebecca and Miguel’s relationship has seemed pretty low-key from what we’ve seen so far. I feel like we don’t really know anything about it at all, but I have just assumed that there isn’t a whole lot to know about it.

In the promo for next week’s episode, Kevin asks Miguel if he was in love with Rebecca when Jack was alive. This is huge, especially because some of us fans may not have previously considered it.

I think that he could have at least had feelings for Rebecca while Jack was around. I am guessing that there’s more to it than that though. For one, the show is often more complex than we would predict it to be. The other reason is that Rebecca frequently mentions how perfect Jack was. This makes me think that she has messed up at one point or another, potentially with Miguel.

I’m wondering if Miguel and Rebecca were in love with each other and were together at all while Jack was alive. Miguel was going through a divorce during a few episodes in Season 1. He could have had feelings for Rebecca at that time and could have acted on them too.

There’s a lot of backstory that has yet to unfold. I’m especially looking forward to learning more about this relationship and its beginning. I have a feeling that there are some big surprises coming, as the show usually goes.

Also, there has got to be a legitimate reason for Kevin to ask about it. I can’t see him questioning the issue and then the suspicions getting denied immediately. I definitely think that he’s on to something and that we will find out more soon! Again, things will likely be more complicated than a simple yes or no answer.
