After a traumatic opening scene, we got a lot of questions answered. Jack and Rebecca Pearson woke up to their house engulfed in flames in the middle of the night. Do they know what caused it though?

Jack Pearson ran back into the house to grab the dog and to collect some important family memories. Luckily, both he and Rebecca Pearson made it out alive, along with their two kids and dog who were home at the time. By the time the fire was completely put out, the Pearsons were on their way to Miguel’s and the hospital.

Later, after Jack’s death, we see Rebecca drive up in front of the house. At that point, their home is barely there. This made me question whether or not the Pearsons knew what actually caused the fire. Would they ever know?

Considering the time of Jack’s death, I’m assuming he had no idea. It was too soon, and he was likely in shock. He probably didn’t have a chance to process the fire or anything about it. All he knew was that he got his family out and that he wasn’t feeling so well.

I think that most of the evidence — along with everything else in their home — was destroyed by the time Rebecca got there. The police wouldn’t have been able to locate any major clues, such as the Crock Pot. Maybe Rebecca was later interviewed about the fire and asked about potential causes. There’s a chance she would mention the Crock Pot or another household appliance, but I doubt it.

Of course, the Pearsons knew that the Crock Pot had a faulty switch. I don’t think that they would necessarily realize that’s what started the fire. We know that it did, just because we saw it all go down. The writers wrote the storyline around the Crock Pot to give us fans an explanation.

I am pretty certain that the Pearson family has no idea what even caused their house fire. I think that we’ll find out soon whether they do or not. It will likely remain a mystery to the family, and they might just keep referencing the smoke alarms.
