Should we be emotionally preparing for a funeral in the This Is Us season 2 finale?

Will the Season 2 finale of This Is Us pull off any heartbreaking twists? Here are four important questions for the highly anticipated episode.

Not to alarm you, but the Season 2 finale of This Is Us is upon us. I know. Time flies when you’re bawling your eyes out every Tuesday night. While it’s currently unclear what to expect from the season-ending episode, the rumor mill has been relentlessly churning. Will Kate leave Toby at the alter? Will another beloved character kick the bucket? Will Jack come back to life and rejoin his family in present day?

Sure, those questions may not have answers at the moment, but the one question that does have a small fire lit underneath it revolves around another character dying. Whether it’s Beth or Randall or someone else entirely, it’s best to begin emotionally preparing for a potentially mysterious funeral… or something of the sort. This Is Us loves to juxtapose the happy with the sad, and we think that’s what they’ll do with Kate’s wedding as we ask four pressing questions for the finale.

1. Are the rumors true?

Last month, rumors began flying that a character on This Is Us would be diagnosed with terminal cancer, and another rumor speculated that Beth would be the one to bid adieu (in the future, at least). Will the series flash forward once more to deliver even more heartbreak and confirm the rumors with a glimpse at a funeral?

2. Will Deja become a permanent Pearson?

Following last week’s special episode devoted to Deja, this one’s obvious. Deja’s mom rescinded responsibility of her daughter, as she no longer wants to make Deja’s life harder, and left her in the care of Beth and Randall. Reasonably, the next step for the Pearsons would be adopting Deja, but what does Deja want?

3. How does Jack’s appearance happen?

You saw the pictures, and now you have seen the clip. It’s official: This Is Us is ripping our hearts clean out of our chests and bringing Jack Pearson into the present timeline. Previously, fans were suspicious of adding another timeline, a possibly fantastical one, in which the slate’s wiped clean for Jack. Well, we’re going there. How will the series pull it off, and will it change the rules of the show?

4. Does the wedding go off without a hitch?

A few weeks ago, creator Dan Fogelman referred to the season finale featuring “presumably a wedding.” I’m sorry, come again? What do you mean by “presumably”? While Fogelman could simply be dancing around a spoiler that comes hand-in-hand with the marriage, he could also be hinting toward further complications for Kate and Toby. Will they actually get hitched?
