Why a KaToby baby might not be in the near future on This Is Us

We all witnessed Kate’s heartbreaking miscarriage on This Is Us. Now that she and Toby are married and getting settled into their life together, we’re patiently awaiting a KaToby baby. This might not end up happening though.

It’s pretty clear to see that Kate and Toby won’t be able to have a child easily. Of course, us fans are all waiting for the news to break about a KaToby baby! How likely is this though?

In a recent interview, Chrissy Metz mentioned that there could be something going on with Toby physically. This is in addition to his potential mental health struggle. This is something to consider, and it will likely hold Kate and Toby back from having a baby.

Toby’s health — both physical and mental — could prevent the couple from having a kid altogether. It could also just slow them down. Maybe they want to wait until Toby is better or starts receiving help.

Even if Toby’s health wasn’t a concern, a KaToby baby wouldn’t happen overnight. First, this is This Is Us. There is no easy task on this show! Second, Kate has had a miscarriage and there will likely be other potential risks if she can get pregnant.

Still, we shouldn’t give up hope! Based on Kate’s family’s history with adoption and fostering, either one is very possible. Randall was adopted, so Kate knows how that works. Randall and Beth fostered Deja, and Kate could definitely receive some helpful insight in that area.

There’s a possibility that Kate and Toby don’t even want kids anymore. In Metz’s interview, mentioned above, it sounds like the couple still wanted to have a baby though.
