Conan O’Brien reveals secret son Milo Ventimiglia in This Is Us parody
In last week’s episode of Conan, the comedian took the time to add a little family drama to his show in a bid for higher ratings.
After bingeing This Is Us and realizing how much America loves “searing family drama,” Conan O’Brien decided to add a little family drama of his own in a This Is Us parody titled “This Is Conan.” As Conan works long hours perfecting the new format and style of his show, his wife – played by Andy Richter and conveniently still named Andy – bemoans the lack of time he spends at home as they sit down to dinner. Andy criticizes the new set, Conan’s new outfit, the lack of the band, and generally dislikes all the changes to their lives. The show is half as long but Conan is working double hard, using up every fiber of his being to make it a success. Their relationship is obviously under a heavy strain.
To make up for it and to prove to his wife he loves her, Conan gifts Andy an expensive diamond necklace. Rather than allay suspicions, the extravagance of the gift makes Andy suspicious. “This looks expensive,” cries Andy. “There’s something else you feel guilty about. What did you do?” Conan looks sheepish for a moment and then reveals he has a secret son. “Milo, get in here,” calls Conan. His secret son is Milo Ventimiglia, who sits down to dinner and says hello to his new mom and quietly nods approvingly to all Conan’s dramatic platitudes and cliches. Andy protests that Milo is way too ruggedly attractive to be Conan’s son and that he’s clearly there for free food.
The skit closes out with Andy wondering, “What happened to us?” to which Conan replies, “Don’t you see? This is us!” As the camera takes in closeups of each thoughtful actor in turn, with Ventimiglia taking a huge bite of his dinner. Gratuitous cameo or not, the skit was broadly funny and Ventimiglia is as charming and “ruggedly handsome” as ever.
