This Is Us star Jon Huertas went on vacation to Belize and told us all about it.

Jon Huertas, who plays the much abused Miguel on This Is Us, went on a beautiful vacation with his wife to Belize and wrote an exclusive essay all about it for Us Weekly. It definitely doubles as an advertisement for Kind Traveler, but that doesn’t keep the article or the vacation itself from being exceptional. And it’s not like Kind Traveler doesn’t deserve the promotion as a booking platform that doubles as a charity collection. Give to a charity and get some sweet discounts on hotels. In keeping with the animal-loving trend of his castmates, Huertas donated to the Cayo Animal Welfare Society.

Huertas and his wife take a vacation every year to somewhere tropical so this year they went to Belize. The amount of vicarious living I had to do just to write that sentence is absurd. Even so, the tone of Huertas’ article is so purely him, even the envy I feel for his vacation can’t make me dislike him. Did you know the Huertas is a Padi-certified rescue diver? Now you do! As geeky as Huertas is about diving (and airplanes! and design! and horseback riding!) though, they opted for a jungle adventure.

Huertas’ narrative is filled with amazing experiences, historical and social tidbits, cultural observations, sustainable environmental practices, and a heck of a lot of fun. They took to the jungle, they flew around in little cessna planes that took off from narrow jungle runways, they galloped through the wilderness, spelunked through caves, visited ancient ruins, spotted howler monkeys, avoided jaguars, took a cooking class, dove off the coast of white sand beaches and randomly ran into Misha Collins. That last one was a bit of surprise, scrolling through Huertas’ beautiful photos only to happen across a picture of Misha Collins on the beach.

Truth be told, the article is well worth reading in full. Huertas is a wonderful storyteller, a thoughtful traveler, and he obviously had quite a lot of fun. If you’re thinking about visiting Belize, I’d say its a good place to start to get some itinerary ideas too!
