Due to the second week preempting of This Is Us, fans have a lot of extra time to analyze and theorize about the upcoming episode, Songbird Road: Part Two. Here’s what the trailer tells us.

The promo for This Is Us season 3 episode 12, Songbird Road: Part Two opens with a dramatic voiceover and a reminder of where we left off last week. “Rescuing a lost soul will reveal long lost memories and secrets from the past.” We see again The Big Three at Uncle Nicky’s camper home with Kevin carefully comforting the distressed Nicky. This transitions into Nicky talking to Rebecca – that should be an interesting conversation – and saying, “I used to be a person. I wish I could be that person again.” Something tells me the Pearsons are going to try to help him with that.

And here comes Kevin, telling the others “We have to do something.” The Big Three come to the rescue as they accompany Uncle Nicky down an anonymous hallway. “He’s family, we’re gonna help him,” continues Kevin in voiceover. Could they be bringing Uncle Nicky to some kind of clinic for treatment? There’s what appears to be a random extra in a doorway for just a moment, so it doesn’t appear to be one of the Pearson homes.

As the narrator talks about long lost memories, a montage of Jack with the Big Three shows a touching moment between him and young Randall and a confetti fight between all of them. Adult Randall tells Kate that as a parent all you can do is hope the good stuff sticks, “that’s all you can do for them.” Perhaps Kate is struggling with Jack’s lie about Uncle Nicky and Vietnam, feeling like it colors the past a little. With Kate’s own baby on the way, she might be having a parenting crisis.

As the narrator talks about those secrets from the past we see Kevin on his phone as he stands in Uncle Nicky’s camper (maybe calling a local rehab clinic), Kate as a passenger in a moving car (maybe Randall’s SUV), Young Kevin evading Rebecca’s fond hair ruffle in the station wagon, Tess and Annie sitting at the dinner table with Annie looking surprises and Tess looking smug (maybe they brought Uncle Nicky home after all!), and Jack just standing at the sink with Rebecca and turning to look behind him (shocking!).

The trailer ends with Rebecca saying to Uncle Nicky, “I think it’s time you and I talked.” I’ll say! She’s in a building with the same yellow walls as the supposed clinic to which the Big Three brought Nicky. Nicky looks apprehensive, but there’s actually no indication that Rebecca is talking to Nicky (but probably, because of the yellow walls, the fuzzy shoulder in the foreground could probably be Nicky’s jacket, and she’s wearing the same outfit as when she’s talking to Nicky at the beginning of the trailer) or that Nicky is actually reacting to Rebecca in that moment. These trailers can be so misleading in their editing, but that’s half the fun.

What do you think will happen next week when Part Two finally airs? Will Nicky get treatment? Will the Big Three bring him home? What will everyone learn about Jack? Find out (finally!) on Tuesday, February 12 at 9pm ET on NBC.
