What to Watch: Milo Ventimiglia with J Lo in Second Act

If you’re looking for something to fill the gap until the next new episode of This Is Us airs, Milo Ventimiglia stars in a romantic comedy with J Lo and it’s playing right now.

Catch it before its gone, This Is Us’ Milo Ventimiglia stars in the romantic comedy Second Act opposite chick flick legend Jennifer Lopez. Its actually been out for a while, opening on December 21 of last year, but it’s still playing in some theaters. It tells the story of a career woman who keeps getting passed over until her nephew gives her a few fake credentials on social media. Ventimiglia plays J Lo’s love interest in the movie and she called to ask him to take the part. “Yeah, it was kind of surreal but amazing,” marveled Ventimiglia. ”She said I was the guy she wanted, she had no other choices in her mind.” It says a lot about his pedigree as an actor that he was J Lo’s first and only choice.

Just like This Is Us would never normally be a show I’d consider watching, Second Act is very much outside of my wheelhouse, but I think Ventimiglia’s presence in the film does a lot to recommend it – not least of all a very revealing shower scene. ”For the film I hadn’t actually realised from the script how much I was going to be, eh, exposed, so how I looked there was just my status quo,” recalls Ventimiglia. “I didn’t do any special training or anything.” According to him, though, his vegetarian diet does a lot to keep him in shape.

While the main plot of the movie is J Lo trying to advance professionally – and maintain her cover while doing it – the film is more than watchable enough to enjoy the substantial glimpses we get of Ventimiglia in his romantic subplot. And knowing that he fought with his This Is Us filming schedule in order to do it says a lot about the role.
