Melanie Liburd is relatively new to the cast of This Is Us, playing opposite Justin Hartley as Kevin Pearson’s new romantic interest, but what was she doing before that?
Melanie Liburd was born November 11, 1987 in Hertfordshire, England. Viewers would never know it from her spot on American accent, but Liburd was born and bred in the UK and sports the native accent. She has relatively few credits before This Is Us because she’s only been active for the last eight years. She started in 2011 on the short lived NBC drama Dracula starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the title role. Liburd played a character named Ladybird in one episode. After a few guest appearances in shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Strike Back, she landed two episodes as Ivy Dexter on the short lived Rob Lowe legal comedy The Grinder, in which Lowe’s experience as a television actor in a legal drama leads him to believe he’s qualified to work at his brother’s law firm.
Her first main role came as Nyx Harper on the Canadian science fiction series Dark Matter. The series followed a group of six people who awake on a space ship with no memory of who they are, where they’re going, or how they got there. Liburd was not one of the six, but was an important side character. She also appeared as one of the main characters on the Netflix thriller Gypsy and played the Red Priestess on an episode of Game of Thrones before getting her big break on This Is Us.
Liburd clearly has a lot of skill and talent to come so far in such a relatively short span of time. While she’s not yet a big name, she’s been remarkably successful to have worked her way up to main roles in just a few years. We can look forward to more of Liburd on This Is Us for the foreseeable future, but we’ll certainly see her career continue to grow beyond her time with the Pearsons.
