This Is Us releases intense sneak peek of Songbird Road Part Two

This Is Us released a special sneak peek of tonight’s new episode, “Songbird Road: Part Two” and Rebecca’s first meeting with Uncle Nicky.

When last we saw This Is Us, the Big Three were meeting Nicky for the first time and resolving to help their troubled long-lost Uncle.

As you can imagine, there are a lot of feelings flying around regarding Uncle Nicky and the fact that Jack Pearson, husband and father, kept his existence a secret from his family. In the sneak peek clip from the second part of “Songbird Road,” Rebecca meets Uncle Nicky for the first time and there are a lot of feelings and quite a bit of tension. While Nicky is polite and friendly, he is also distinctly aware of the effect his existence has on the Pearsons and particularly Rebecca.

Rebecca’s reaction is about as classic Rebecca as it could be. When faced with emotional moments, she is direct and honest, perhaps unconsciously brash. She stares at Nicky with open fascination, tightly coiled pain and anger, and perhaps a hint of loving nostalgia for Jack. She comments immediately on the fact that Nicky has Jack’s eyes and she seems put a little off balance by that similarity.

The Big Three stand by a little awkwardly, watching the interaction with knowing sympathy for what their mother is going through. I just about lost it looking at Sterling K. Brown’s expression as Randall’s heart clearly goes out to Rebecca in that moment. How can a 30 second sneak peek video make you cry already? This episode is gonna be intense.

Rebecca asks if Nicky knew about them and she seems shocked to learn that Jack had visited him in early 1992. Nicky stands Rebecca’s scrutiny for as long as he can and then excuses himself. Rebecca hardly seems to notice, so wrapped up in her own thoughts and feelings. Her face is about as tense and tight as it’s possible to get. Are you ready to cry? Because I already did.

This Is Us’ part two of “Songbird Road” premieres tonight, Tuesday, February 12 at 9pm ET on NBC.
