This Is Us sneak peek 2: Randall tries to lighten the mood

For a very special episode of This Is Us, we get treated to two very special sneak peeks of what we can look forward to tonight. In this sneak peek of season 3 episode 15, Randall tries to ease the tension in “The Waiting Room.”

Last week on This Is Us, Kate’s water broke and Kevin was too drunk to drive her to the hospital. Kate is only 28-weeks into a high risk pregnancy, so there’s a lot of fear as the Pearsons await news of her and the baby.

In this special sneak peek, Kevin paces the room restlessly as the Pearsons wait for news of Kate. He complains about the lack of news, saying that it’s ridiculous that Kate’s water breaks and then its been hours since Toby came out with an update. Zoe tries to reason that the doctors are probably just focused on Kate – as they should be. But Kevin argues that if it was Meghan Markle back there, they’d be getting updates every two minutes. “And Kate better not be back there getting anything less than Meghan Markle treatment…whoever that is.”

Everyone seems a little exasperated with Kevin’s ranting, so Randall steps up and tries to make a joke. “You know that baby Markle is gonna pop out in full hair and makeup right? Little crown and scepter.” Randall mimes holding a scepter, doing a fancy royal wave. Zoe laughs lightly, Beth is unamused. So is Kevin. He says he’s going back there to get an update, but Randall just went for an update 20 minutes ago. Kevin argues that Randall isn’t the only one allowed to get an update and tries to push past him. Rebecca has had enough of their bickering. All she has to do is look at them and say, “Boys! Please.”

Randall, empathetic as always, says he knows Kevin is worried about her. They all are. And he knows that Kevin has a lot going on right now, but he needs to try and relax. Kevin doesn’t even know how to do that right now. Randall offers suggestions. Sit down, close your eyes. Kevin shakes his head, saying there’s no way he’s falling asleep. So Randall suggests he watch the nature special about birds that’s playig on the TV. Kevin has had enough and he knows all he wants to know about birds. “You just have to let me breath, man,” he says, as if Randall is being super overbearing and suffacating with his attention. Kevin walks away to get an update and Randall is left to accept his helplessness in the situation.

Tensions are definitely running high, especially with Kevin. And its no wonder, since he’s recently fallen off the wagon and couldn’t even help Kate when she needed him because of it. He must feel powerless and ashamed, worried about Kate but also probably craving a drink. It seems like he’s overcompensating now for his failure earlier. And what if Kate doesn’t survive the labor? Kevin is already struggling, what is he going to do without the support of his twin if he has to also grieve her? Things are getting too real.

This Is Us  season 3 episode 15 airs tonight, Tuesday, March 12 at 9pm ET on NBC.
