This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown has starred in a number of films since fulfilling the role of Randall Pearson. Which ones have you seen?

Sterling K. Brown began his acting career in 2002 with roles on stage, on television and in movie theaters. He’s appeared in over 30 shows in that time. Not only that, but his movie roles have increased significantly since joining the cast of This Is Us in 2016. Most recently, his voice acting could be heard in the hit Disney sequel Frozen 2 as Lieutenant Destin Mattias. So what other movies has he done over the last few years? Let’s take a look.

Marshall (2017)

Marshall, described as a biographical legal film, was released in October 2017. Sterling K. Brown plays the prominent role of Joseph Spell, a man wrongfully accused of rape and attempted murder. Chadwick Boseman portrays Thurgood Marshall, a lawyer who has to defend Spell in court. The film is rated PG-13 and currently holds an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s hit song, “Stand Up for Something,” was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song.

Black Panther (2018)

February 2018 marked the release of Marvel’s Black Panther, where Brown portrayed Black Panther’s uncle and Killmonger’s father, N’Jobu. The film was a success across the board, becoming the second highest-grossing movie that year. It is considered “certified fresh” with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score and has a PG-13 rating. After the film’s release, it was revealed that Brown’s exact role in the movie was kept a secret from everyone (including his wife) despite it being publicly known he would appear in the film.

Hotel Artemis (2018)

This summer 2018 film featured Sterling K. Brown in a key role among a star-filled cast that also boasted the likes of Jodie Foster, Jeff Goldblum, Zachary Quinto and Dave Bautista, just to name a few. Brown portrayed Sherman in this dystopian thriller about “a nurse who runs a secret hospital for criminals in futuristic Los Angeles.” Hotel Artemis is rated R and currently has a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 (2019)

The Angry Birds Movie 2 hit theaters earlier this year in August. Brown was featured in a voice acting role as Garry Pig, who was not featured in the first film from 2016. This kid-friendly film features the birds and pigs coming together when a big weapon threatens their islands. The PG film holds an 84% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Waves (2019)

Waves had its initial release just last month on Nov. 15. Sterling K. Brown portrayed Ronald Williams, the father of the film’s main characters, as their family deals with love and forgiveness following a devastating loss. The movie has an R-rating and is “certified fresh” with an overall 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes. As of this writing, Brown has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor by the Hollywood Critics Association, while Waves has been nominated for Best Independent Film.
