This Is Us returns for its midseason premiere on Jan. 14, and Sterling K. Brown says the ending is shocking. What’s in store for the Pearson family?

Speculation is growing as we are now under a month away from the return of This Is Us Season 4. As the days have gone by, new information has been revealed regarding what we can expect during the highly-anticipated midseason premiere. Here’s what we know so far.

This Is Us producer Elizabeth Berger revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the Jan. 14th episode will definitely feature Jack and Rebecca in the 70s trying to navigate the early days of their relationship after resistance from her father. From the looks of it, these two are in for serious conversations about their future. Luckily we know everything will eventually turn out for them, but it’s always fun to fill in those gaps and see how they made it as a unit.

Earlier this month, we mentioned that we will soon learn more about teen Kate’s mysterious relationship with Marc. It has now be confirmed that those details will be revealed within “the first few episodes” of the new year. Additionally, it won’t take long before present-day Kate dives into who “LadyKryptonite5” is, and why she’s messaging Toby about their marriage.

Us Weekly picked up an interesting scoop last week when speaking with Sterling K. Brown regarding the ending to the midseason premiere. Brown went on the record with the following statements:

"“I was just in [creator] Dan Fogelman’s office yesterday and he was showing me glimpses of episode 4×10. And the end of 4×10 had me screaming at the TV out loud. It’s one of the more shocking things that I’ve seen.”“I knew what was going to happen. But like, when I saw it, I was like, ‘They’re not ready.’ The audience is going to collectively gasp when they see our premiere for the second half of the season. That’s all I can really say.”"

Well, how shocking can it be? Brown left no hints as to who would be involved in this potentially jaw-dropping scene, but there’s plenty of storylines that could fit the bill. We have Kate and Toby’s current marriage issues, Randall and Kevin’s eventual falling out, Kevin’s new family, as well as Rebecca’s declining health. And perhaps it’s none of those topics! No matter the outcome, we’re in for an intriguing start to 2020.
