John Legend to guest star on upcoming This Is Us episode

Musician John Legend will guest star on an upcoming This Is Us episode. What will his role entail?

This Is Us fans were treated to a new promo for the second half of Season 4 during the 2020 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night. What was even more surprising was a clip previewing an appearance from John Legend.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that his appearance will be in a guest role, likely as himself, though it remains to be seen what exactly he’ll be doing with the Pearson family. One thing’s for sure, it looks like Legend will do what he does best on the piano.

This won’t be John Legend’s first guest television role, though. He has appeared as himself in a number of shows since 2006 including Sesame Street, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Royal Pains and Master of None. Legend will also be lending his voice acting talents in an upcoming episode of The Simpsons.

This Is Us has been no stranger to celebrity guest appearances either. Alan Thicke was included in the pilot as Kevin’s co-star on The Manny. True Blood star Sam Trammell was spotted a few times in Season 1 as Rebecca’s bandmate turned ex-boyfriend, while New Amsterdam‘s Janet Montgomery portrayed Kevin’s British girlfriend early on.

Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone appeared as himself in Season 2, Episode 3 as Kevin’s movie co-star. Wendie Malick popped up a few times in Seasons 2 and 3 as Toby’s mother. Season 3, Episode 3 notably featured guest appearances from the likes of Jane Kaczmarek and Terry Gross.

Season 4 alone has incorporated guest appearances from Omar Epps and Marsha Stephanie Blake as Malik’s parents, while Tim Matheson and Timothy Omundson have recurred as Gregory and Dave Malone, respectively. Asante Blackk, who portrays Malik, started this season in a recurring role before quickly being upped to a series regular.
