Ron Cephas Jones and Timothy Omundson are returning to This Is Us to continue their roles as William and Gregory. What can we expect from their involvement in Season 4?

Randall Pearson will meet his father, William, once again in the back half of This Is Us Season 4. Deadline confirmed the news via Dan Fogelman coming out of NBC’s 2020 TCA panel over the weekend. It was also confirmed that Timothy Omundson will continue to recur as Kate and Toby’s neighbor, Gregory. Here’s a breakdown of who they are and what we can expect from them in 2020.

Ron Cephas Jones

Ron Cephas Jones appeared in the first three seasons of This Is Us as Randall’s biological father, William Hill. William gave Randall up at birth, but the two were able to establish a relationship in Season 1 before William passed away. Despite his character’s death, Jones has continued to appear as William through flashbacks and dream sequences, so it’s very likely that is how we will meet him again in Season 4.

But don’t just expect to see him in one or two episodes. Fogelman revealed we can expect “a lot more William coming this season, we have a big storyline coming up.” One has to wonder if the storyline he’s referring to is the one involving Randall and his battles with anxiety. Randall is set to be a major focus in the coming weeks as his storyline will introduce Pamela Adlon in a recurring role.

Timothy Omundson

Timothy Omundson has appeared in many shows including Psych and Galavant, but most recently he has been seen in three episodes from This Is Us Season 4. Omundson unfortunately suffered a stroke in 2017, which he is still recovering from. As a result, Fogelman wrote Gregory’s role for Omundson, who now portrays Kate and Toby’s grouchy, recovering neighbor.

"I have been really excited to see how the audience has been reacting to his part of the show. You are watching someone who is really putting himself out on camera in the middle of their recovery process, speaking openly about it and acting his a** off. It’s a really exciting part of the show, and hope it will be for a while."

Gregory and Kate got to know each other throughout a few episodes when Toby was at work or the gym, and Kate was at home taking care of baby Jack by herself. Their friendship has stayed innocent, although there are plenty of questions surrounding what’s going on with Toby and his Crossfit friends. It looks like we can expect to see more of Gregory, who will likely be involved in Kate and Toby’s lives as the season progresses.
