Randall returns to therapy to unpack what would’ve happened had Jack not died. Here’s what to expect and how to watch This Is Us Season 4, Episode 17.
Try to hold back your tears, This Is Us fans! There’s only two more episodes this season, and we still have plenty of questions that we would love to have answered. Episode 17 in particular will try to answer Randall’s question: What if Jack survived the fire?
Would Randall still battle the anxiety that he does today? Would he even have to go to therapy if his father, either of them for that matter, were still alive?
As we covered on Monday, we can expect to see many hypothetical flashbacks with Niles Fitch returning to play young adult Randall. As part of those “what if” scenes, Randall will be accompanied by Jack to meet William.
That’s right, Ron Cephas Jones is back for his second episode this season to reprise his role as Randall’s biological father. We can’t wait to see how Jack and William’s “first” encounter will go down while Randall is in the room.
The promo for “After the Fire” also hints that we’ll see an older Jack sporting graying hair and interacting with members of the Pearson clan. Speaking of our favorite family, the promo also shows Kate holding a young girl. Is this plot line suggesting that Kate would’ve had a baby girl if Jack survived?
We can also expect to see Jack giving a toast to Randall, who can be seen holding a younger Beth in his arms. We also catch a glimpse of Kevin’s presence. One has to wonder if This Is Us will try to swerve us with who Kevin’s future wife is through these flashbacks.
When all is said and done, let’s just hope that Randall walks out of that therapy session with some peace of mind before we hit what is sure to be a nail-biter of a season finale.
