This Is Us: 5 burning questions after watching the Season 4 finale

The This Is Us Season 4 finale answered several questions, but opened the door for new mysteries and fan theories. Here are five burning questions we have for Season 5.

Spoiler alert: This article contains major spoilers from the Season 4 finale of This Is Us.

This Is Us is notorious for their shocking premieres and finales, not to mention every other episode in between. The Season 4 finale is officially in the books, and it was certainly one to remember. I, for one, found myself yelling at the screen and covering my eyes, especially during the the last twenty minutes.

Who was the doctor with the red-haired daughter?

The Season 4 finale introduced us to a horse-loving doctor and his red-haired daughter. At first glance, I wondered if the doc was an older Jack Damon. There wasn’t enough evidence to support the theory that he was blind, and that’s when the twist came into play.

The doc, who remained nameless, was revealed to be Madison’s OB. (That’s right, Madison is pregnant, but more on that later.) The identities of the father-daughter duo remain unknown, but fans are dying to know who they are.

New fan theories call for a pretty wild storyline involving Dr. K. Some believe that the doc was Kyle, Jack and Rebecca’s son who died at birth. In this theory, Dr. K “stole” Kyle and raised him on his own because Dr. K’s own son died at birth. So, is Madison being treated by Kevin’s brother?

We have a lot of doubt about that theory considering Dr. K and his wife went on to have children and even more grandchildren. It sure would make for a wild storyline, however I don’t think it’s plausible. I do believe, though, that we will eventually learn who they are. This Is Us doesn’t just introduce us to new characters for nothing.

Will Kevin and Madison get married?

Surprise! Madison is pregnant with twins, and Kevin is definitely the father. Kevin was faced with a lot of new information and decisions in the season finale, so we’re very thankful that he came out on the other side of his one-year anniversary of staying sober.

Now that we know Kevin has two children on the way, we have to wonder, will he marry Madison? It wasn’t too long ago that Kevin proclaimed he wanted to start a family by his 40th birthday in August. He went on a dating mission to find his future wife, which involved reuniting with his ex-wife, dating a taken Sophia Bush, and a one night stand with his sister’s best friend.

In fact, I was worried the season finale was going to take us on a detour when we caught glimpses of Cassidy and Sophie living their lives in the midst of Kevin learning about his future. What if Cassidy is pregnant too? Likewise, will Kevin and Madison fall in love and get married? Or will they work as a team to raise their kids?

Will Kevin and Randall ever make amends?

While still on the topic of Kevin, he said some pretty harsh things to his brother. Unfortunately, those words could be the last spoken between the two for quite some time. We know that Kevin and Randall will still be estranged by their 40th birthday later this year, and they still appear to be awkward when Rebecca is on her death bed several years later.

With at least two more seasons on the horizon, is it possible that Kevin and Randall won’t be on good terms during that time and even beyond? We can only imagine the negative effects this will have on Kate, Rebecca, and even Randall’s daughter, Tess, who has grown closer to Kevin.

Nicky’s wedding band

It’s time to jump to the future. The final moments of the This Is Us Season 4 finale revealed Nicky, Randall, Kevin, and Kevin’s twins gathering at Rebecca’s death bed. There were a number of major observations from the scene, with one of which being the noticeable wedding band on Nicky’s left hand. Say what?

Uncle Nicky Pearson is a recovering addict in the present day after going through traumatic experiences as a young soldier. While we still don’t know everything about Jack’s estranged brother, we certainly were led to believe he’s single.

Does this mean Nicky will find love in the coming years? Speculative fans wonder if Nicky somehow marries Rebecca down the line! After all, Miguel appears to be absent from this gathering. What if Rebecca falls for Nicky because he looks like Jack? Like the Dr. K theory, this one is also out there, but anything could be possible in the world of This Is Us.

Where’s Kate?

This important question can be applied to two major plots. Kate and Toby made the abrupt decision to look into adopting a second child, so Baby Jack could grow up with a sibling. As we learned, Jack Damon does indeed have a sister, as she rushed to the hospital when Jack’s baby, Hope, was born. Considering Kate and Toby’s grandchild is being born at this time, many are questioning where they are.

The same can be said for Rebecca’s farewell. We know how Randall and Kevin arrive there, but we don’t know Kate’s status. Is she even alive at this point? I’ve read a lot of theories that believe Kate will die before her mother does. What a blow that would be.

It could explain her absence from Hope’s birth, but it doesn’t quite explain Toby’s whereabouts either. There’s a lot to come in the future for KaToby.
