Talking To God

On Friday, Chrissy Metz took to Instagram to announce the debut of her single “Talking To God.” In a statement, the actress said that the song was about “those moments when we ask the questions we desperately want the answers to.” Metz announced her debut album back in January in the midst of what’s already been a busy year for the star.

Best-Selling Author

In March of 2018, Metz released her memoir, This Is Me: Loving The Person You Are Today. The memoir explored Metz’s upbringing growing up in a large family with a single mother, an abusive stepfather, a damaged self-perception, and little hope for the future.

Metz talked to Flare.com in 2018 about sharing personal stories through her memoir:

"“[…]” It’s hard to contend with it on your own and then you’re like, “OK, I guess I’ll share it. I don’t know what’s going to happen. What are people going to say about me?!” What I try to remember is that we’re all the same. We all have something we feel shame or pain about, and the only way I think we can get through that is to know we’re not alone in any of it.”"

The book debuted at No 1. on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

Metz Takes The Stage At The Oscars

In February, Chrissy Metz showed off her singing chops when she took the stage at the Grammy’s and performed “I’m Standing With You”, the Oscar-nominated song from her 2019 hit film Breakthrough. In the film, based on a true story, Metz played Joyce Smith, a devout Christian and the adoptive mother of 14-year-old John Smith. After John is placed in a medically induced coma following a fall through an icy lake, Joyce must rely on her faith to keep her strong.

Metz told PEOPLE Magazine about bringing a real story to life:

"“To play a real person is very different than creating your own character. There’s all this pressure, like I want to tell the story appropriately and I want to do it justice.”"

Following the release of “Talking To God”, This Is Us showrunner Dan Fogelman took to Twitter to congratulate Metz on the single:

"“Metz is the betz. Last 4 years: This is Us. Lead in a major successful film. Wrote a best selling book. Oscar nominated song. Performed at Oscars! Now a legit recording artist. Everything she does has so much heart & humanity and we could all use more of that these days”"

He’s right. In this uncertain time, we need to be reminded that there is good in the world, and we need to promote it. For four years, Metz has been doing that on This Is Us reminding fans that they aren’t alone and that we truly are all in this together.
