Sometimes, all you need is a good laugh and a dose of romance, and there's no better way to find both than with a great romantic comedy. These films are designed to make you laugh, swoon, and leave you with that warm, fuzzy feeling.
Whether it's the butterflies of a first date, the awkwardness of two people who are clearly meant for each other, or the quirky situations love brings, rom-coms have the power to lift our spirits and brighten even the dullest of days. They’re the kind of movies that leave you smiling long after the credits roll.
In this article, we share four of the best romantic comedies that are guaranteed to leave you smiling from ear to ear. You'll probably recognize some if not all of them. That just means it's time for a rewatch session!
50 First Dates (2004)
50 First Dates is personally my favorite rom-com of all time, and I watch it at least once every year. Yes, it's that serious! It stars Adam Sandler as Henry Roth, a marine veterinarian in Hawaii, who falls in love with art teacher Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore), a woman with short-term memory loss. Every day, Lucy wakes up with no memory of the previous day due to a traumatic accident. So, every morning, Henry goes to great lengths to make her fall in love with him again.
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
When Harry Met Sally is a prime example of a great romantic comedy film, and many people consider it a classic. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan star as Harry and Sally, two college graduates who, after sharing a long road trip from Chicago to New York, begin a friendship that spans over twelve years. Over the years, they navigate their own romantic relationships and evolving friendship. As their bond deepens, they begin to question their feelings for each other.
10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Serving as a contemporary take on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You is a beloved teen rom-com telling the love story of a strong-willed and independent teenager named Kat (Julia Stiles) and the school's bad boy Patrick (Heath Ledger).
When Kat's younger sister Bianca finds out that the only way she can date is if Kat does, she and new student Cameron James come up with a scheme where Patrick is paid to date Kat. However, as Kat and Patrick spend time together, their relationship ends up turning into something real.
The Proposal (2009)
Whoever the casting manager/director was for The Proposal did a good job of casting Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in the leading roles because their strong chemistry made this movie really entertaining. When Editor-in-Chief Margaret Tate (Bullock) finds herself facing deportation to Canada, she convinces her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), to marry her. But what starts as a fake relationship turns into something genuine as they spend time together.
