Katherine and Owen get their happy ending in Lonely Planet

After Owen and his girlfriend, Lily, break things off for good because they're incompatible and because Lily cheated on him, Owen packs his bags and is ready to leave the retreat. But first, he goes to apologize to Katherine for how he reacted the previous night. Owen and Katherine shared an intimate moment the previous night, but it quickly ended after Katherine called him a kid. Katherine didn't mean to call him a kid in a demeaning way, but that's how Owen took it, and he stormed off.

Owen apologizes to Katherine for his behavior the night before and then asks if she wants to leave the retreat with him to explore Morocco more. With Lily no longer his girlfriend, Owen is ready to pursue Katherine fully. Katherine agrees to go with him, and they travel all over Morocco, growing closer and closer.

The sexual tension between them reaches a head one night as they hold hands while walking down the streets of Morroco. Owen gently pushes Katherine up against a wall and starts passionately making out with her for a minute before taking their make-out sesh to a hotel. After sleeping together for the first time, they enjoy some intimate pillow talk, confessing their feelings to each other while lying in the hotel bed.

The next morning, Katherine and Owen share another sweet moment where Katherine reveals that she's been cured of her writer's block. Later that night, they have dinner together, and Owen tells Katherine he's in the process of quitting his unfulfilling job. Katherine expresses her support to him for making such a tough decision.

The following day, they spend quality time together by the beach. Katherine tells Owen she's thinking about staying in Morocco and buying an apartment. Owen asks if he can live with her, and she says yes. Owen then shares what's been on his mind all day. He tells Katherine he's been thinking about the swing route, which he explains is a passing pattern in football. He compares it to their current situation, basically saying that even though their situation isn't the best, they've found hope.

Suddenly, a mysterious man approaches them and snatches Katherine's bag, which contains the book she's been writing. He runs away, and Owen chases after him to retrieve the bag, but the man escapes. Owen apologizes to Katherine for not being able to get the bag back, but all Katherine can do is cry. To make matters worse, she didn't back up the book to an electronic device, so now all her hard work is gone.

Back at the hotel, Katherine tells Owen she's going back home to sort everything out. Owen offers to go with her, but Katherine tells him she must go alone. While Owen tries to console her, Katherine makes the mistake of calling him a distraction. Owen takes offense to this and leaves.

The movie then cuts to Katherine having an interview about her new book. A lot of time has passed since she and Owen last saw each other in Morocco, and she's back home. Later that night, her colleagues take her out to a bar where Owen so happens to be. Owen sees Katherine across the bar and approaches her. He greets her before making his exit with his friends.

However, Katherine refuses to let Owen go and chases after him. She apologizes to him for everything that happened in Morocco before she gives him an update on her life. She tells him she wrote a book titled "The Swing Route." Yes, it's the same swing route that Owen mentioned earlier. Owen's friends yell at him that they have to go. Katherine tries to get out everything else she wants to say quickly, but Owen shuts her up by grabbing her face and giving her a passionate kiss. The camera slowly pans away as they continue to kiss.

So, yes, Katherine and Owen end up together at the end of Lonely Planet.
