Where are all the Jane Austen fans? We have some news to share that I'm sure you'll be happy to hear. A new series adaptation of the beloved author's most famous novel, Pride and Prejudice, is reportedly in development at Netflix. Although it hasn't been given the official go-ahead, Variety reports that British author and screenwriter Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) has signed on to write the scripts.

There have been numerous adaptations of Jane Austen's popular 1813 novel, with some of the notable adaptations being the critically acclaimed 2005 film of the same name starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and the six-episode 1995 series of the same name starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

Since Netflix's version hasn't been greenlit, no cast has been attached yet. However, if given the green light, this will be the streaming giant's second adaptation of one of Austen's books. Netflix previously turned Austen's 1817 novel Persuasion into a romance movie starring Dakota Johnson and Cosmo Jarvis.

Pride and Prejudice is a romance novel widely regarded as a masterpiece of English literature. It centers around a clever young woman named Elizabeth Bennet and her experiences with love and social expectations in early 19th-century England.

Elizabeth is the second daughter of the Bennet family, who has four other sisters. She is faced with societal pressure to marry well, and she finds a potential suitor in the wealthy and reserved Mr. Darcy, who arrives in her neighborhood. However, they initially dislike each other due to a combination of misunderstandings, pride, and social class differences. But as they get to know each other, they eventually overcome their differences and fall in love.

Fingers crossed, a series adaptation of this bestselling romance novel works out at Netflix. We'll keep you posted on everything about this potential new series, so stay tuned to This Is Us Crying!
