7 Grey's Anatomy characters we hope to see back for season 21
It’s time for Grey’s Anatomy to come back. It may be an hour later, but season 21 is here, and we’re ready for more.
The premiere episode did not disappoint, picking up off the back of the season 20 finale. We already know that one character will return to the show, and it’s one that we definitely did not see coming. Kali Rocha is back as Sydney Heron, whether you like the character or not.
We also know that Jackson Avery will return. Jesse Williams’ character is back in a surprise capacity, but he doesn’t seem all that happy with Meredith’s actions. How much has his mother actually told him about the situation, though? Sure, he’s a company man, but he also tries to do the right thing for patients and people.
Of course, we’ve seen other characters back now and then. There are others we would love to see return at some point. Here are seven that we need to see in Grey’s Anatomy season 21.
April Kepner
With the return of Jaskcon, we would love to see April Kepner return as well. After all, the last we heard, the two were back together. We need to see how their family is doing now that they are both in Boston.
April could be the perfect person to step in on the entire situation between Catherine and Meredith. She has never been afraid to stand up to Catherine, and she could be someone Meredith wants in her corner.
Alex Karev
Alex did not get the send-off that he deserved. Instead, we got a storyline that didn’t make sense and served to break Jo’s heart. It would be great to gain some closure over that.
With Jo and Link together and now expecting a baby, this would be a perfect time to bring Karev back for drama’s sake. Of course, just having a baby is going to be enough drama for the two of them anyway, but why not add more. This is Grey’s! Plus, he'd stand up for Meredith as she faces Catherine. He's stood up for her in style before.
One of Amelia’s sisters
We know that one of Amelia’s sisters is Lucas’ mom. It’s time to find out which one, and the best way to do that is to bring back one of the sisters. Hey, I’d be up for all three of her sisters returning in some sort of capacity.
There is always some juicy drama when it comes to Amelia and her sisters. I’d love to see her continue to stand up for herself against them, and I’d love for Meredith to have her back fully this time.
Addison Montgomery
Kate Walsh has returned to Grey’s Anatomy a few times in recent seasons. The series follows a lot of real-life issues, and yes, abortions, births, and pregnancy are all hot topics right now. We need to catch up with Addison again to find out where she is.
During the previous season, Bailey had to find a way to get people to stop calling her after she was doxed. Could she help Addison in the same way? We never say if that happened.
Stephanie Edwards
I was a huge fan of Dr. Stephanie Edwards. She had an intriguing backstory, and she simply wanted to do the best for her patients. After a series of traumatic events, Edwards realized that she didn’t want to live her life in a hospital anymore and wanted to travel the world.
We need to catch up with where she is. It always felt odd that she and Jo didn’t really keep in touch much. Meredith and Cristina found a way to keep in touch despite Cristina moving to another time zone. Could we see Edwards come to give a life update in a similar way to Nico last season?
Arizona Robbins
With Jo’s pregnancy, there is room for Arizona Robbins to return. She does in-utero surgery, so we could find out that Jo has an issue that needs surgery while keeping the baby in the womb. Of course she would call Arizona!
We have seen Arizona back in the past, so there’s no reason not to bring her back this season. We’d love for an update on her and Callie. And maybe to even see Callie?
Cristina Yang
The one character I would love to see return this season is Cristina Yang. Yes, I know that it is a long-shot. Sandra Oh has moved on, but there is such a great opportunity. Cristina doesn’t really like Catherine either considering it was the Harper Avery Foundation owning the hospital that led to Cristina eventually moving away.
With Meredith being sued, this is the perfect time to bring Cristina back. She would fight for Meredith to have that research. After all, Catherine wasn’t smart enough to come up with it herself.
Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC. Catch up on Hulu the following day.
