9 must-watch romantic teen shows streaming on Netflix
Netflix has become a go-to destination for people who enjoy watching romantic teen shows. Other streamers might have their own original romantic teen series, but none of them are competing with Netflix's selection, in our opinion.
These shows explore love, heartbreak, and everything in between. They'll make you laugh, cry, and even have you reminiscing about your own youthful adventures in love. Overall, these types of shows are filled with unforgettable romances that will make you swoon!
Here's our list of nine must-watch romantic teen shows currently streaming on Netflix.
Outer Banks
So, Outer Banks is more of a teen drama, but there's enough romance going around in this series to pretty much make it a romantic teen show. The series begins with a teen boy named John B, who becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to his missing father. He enlists the help of his friends to join him on his quest, and along the way, they discover a legendary treasure.
There are so many romantic pairings in this show that have captured the hearts of fans. Obviously, the main couple, John B and Sarah, are most people's favorite couple. It's something about the fact that they both come from two different social classes yet can't help their feelings for each other.
The JJ and Kiara pairing is running a close second. They get along so well and have a strong bond marked by trust and shared experiences. There is also this underlying chemistry between Kiara and JJ that you can't help but ship them together. Overall, they're a compelling couple in Outer Banks that resonates with fans.
Last but not least is Cleo and Pope. It was obvious from Cleo and Pope's first scene together that something more than friendship was brewing. They have a strong sense of loyalty and respect for one another, and as the series progresses, their chemistry becomes more apparent. We can't wait to see their budding romance unfold more in the upcoming Outer Banks season 4.
XO, Kitty
XO, Kitty is personally one of my favorite romantic teen shows on Netflix. Serving as a spinoff of the To All the Boys film series, this teen show sees Anna Cathcart reprise her role as Kitty Song Covey from the movies. However, she's no longer a 13-year-old girl and has aged up to 16 years old.
Kitty has spent so much time being a matchmaker to others, and now she's ready to go on her own journey to find true love. Her journey takes her to South Korea, where her long-distance boyfriend, Dae, lives. Dae attends KISS, a Korean boarding school, and Kitty wants to reunite with him so she enrolls in the same school. However, shortly after her arrival, she finds herself developing romantic feelings for other people, putting her in a complicated situation. Who will Kitty ultimately choose?
A second season of XO, Kitty is currently in the works.
Ginny & Georgia
Another one of my personal faves is Ginny & Georgia. It's a teen show following the lives of a free-spirited single mother named Georgia, her angsty teenage daughter Ginny, and her 9-year-old son Austin as they move to a quiet New England town for a fresh new start.
Both Georgia and Ginny have their fair share of romantic interests in the series. But while it's obvious right off the bat that Ginny and Marcus are meant to be, it's kind of hard to decide who is best for Georgia. There's Ginny's dad, her childhood friend Joe, and Paul, the town's mayor. Georgia has strong chemistry with all three of them, but if I had to give my opinion on who I think she should end up with, I'd say Ginny's dad. They have a lot of history, and Georgia lights up like a Christmas tree anytime he's around.
A third season is in the works at Netflix, and is expected to come out sometime in 2025.
My Life with the Walter Boys
Based on the popular Wattpad novel of the same name by Ali Novak, My Life with Walter Boys revolves around 15-year-old Jackie Howard, who, after experiencing a tragic loss, is forced to move to rural Colorado to live with her new guardians and their 10 kids.
Jackie tries her best to adapt to the new environment and family dynamics, but she finds herself distracted when she falls for two boys, Cole and Alex. Cole and Alex happen to be the sons of her new guardians. Jackie spends the first season struggling to figure out who she really wants to be with. Is it Cole, the popular yet troubled teen? Or is it Alex, the kindhearted teen boy who feels like he always comes second to Cole? You'll have to watch My Life with the Walter Boys on Netflix to find out!
A second season of this romantic teen show is in the works.
Heartstopper
One of the coziest romantic teen shows you could ever watch is Heartstopper. It's based on Alice Oseman's graphic novel and webcomic series of the same name and centers around two teen boys named Charlie and Nick who meet at school, form a friendship, and eventually fall in love.
Charlie is shy and openly gay. When he meets Nick, a popular rugby player at their school, it doesn't take long for him to develop a crush. However, Nick isn't initially aware of his sexuality, so it takes a while for him to realize that what he's feeling for Charlie isn't just friendly. Throughout the first three seasons, we watch as Charlie and Nick navigate the ups and downs of their relationship. This series also focuses on their friend group's lives and their relationships.
Overall, Heartstopper does an excellent job of capturing the essence of young love, making it a beloved romantic teen show.
Here are four more romantic teen shows to check out on Netflix:
- Heartbreak High
- On My Block
- First Kill
- Young Royals
