These 3 Colleen Hoover romance books are in the process of being adapted into movies
In August 2024, Sony released the romantic drama film It Ends with Us, and although it wasn't received well by critics, most viewers enjoyed the movie. It went on to be a box-office success, grossing $344.6 million worldwide against a $25 million budget.
Naturally, fans are wondering about a sequel. However, it looks like the chances of a second film happening are slim to none at the moment because of the off-screen drama that occurred between the movie's stars, Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Baldoni also helmed the film. While there's definitely source material to pull from if there were to be a sequel, Lively and Baldoni are rumored not to be on good terms, and Baldoni has suggested that he wouldn't direct a potential sequel. So, don't expect a second film to happen anytime soon.
It's not all bad news, though. While we might not be getting an It Ends with Us 2, three more of Colleen Hoover's romance novels are in the process of being turned into movies. Hoover is a #1 New York Times bestselling author. She is behind the 2016 novel that It Ends with Us was based on. She's also the author of these New York Times bestsellers: Slammed, Point of Retreat, This Girl, Hopeless, Losing Hope, Maybe Someday, Ugly Love, Confess, November 9 and Verity.
Below, we shared the three Colleen Hoover books that are currently in the process of being adapted into romance films.
Verity
Before It Ends with Us hit theaters in August 2024, it was announced in May that a film adaptation of Hoover's 2018 romantic thriller novel Verity was in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Hillary Seitz, who is best known for co-writing the screenplay for the Netflix drama film The Unforgivable, was revealed to be writing the script with Eat the Cat's Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund producing.
The story centers around a struggling writer by the name of Lowen Ashleigh, who is offered the job of a lifetime by Jeremy Crawford, the husband of best-selling thriller author Verity Crawford. He hires her to finish the remaining novels in a successful book series that his injured wife was unable to complete.
Shortly after arriving at the luxurious Crawford estate, Lowen finds an unfinished manuscript written by Verity that was never meant to be read by others. It reveals dark and disturbing secrets about her life and her twisted relationship with her husband. As Lowen becomes more engrossed in the manuscript, she's left torn between exposing the truth about Verity or protecting Jeremy and his family from what she found out.
No cast members have been announced yet, nor have any production details been revealed. As more information comes out about this movie adaptation, we'll definitely come back and let you know.

Regretting You
A film adaptation of Hoover's 2019 romance novel Regretting You was announced to be in the works in August 2024. Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to the movie in September. Josh Boone (The Fault In Our Stars) is signed on to direct the film from a script written by Susan McMartin (After). Producers include Robert Kulzer (Agatha All Along) for Constantin Film, Brunson Green (The Help), Anna Todd (After book series), and Flavia Viotti.
This film will see Allison Williams (M3GAN, Girls) play the role of a young mother named Morgan Grant who always seems to find herself at odds with her teenage daughter Clara, played by McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire). Morgan had Clara at a young age, and she doesn't want her daughter to make the same mistakes she did.
However, Clara yearns for independence. After a tragic accident takes the life of Morgan's husband and Clara's father, Morgan and Clara's relationship becomes even more strained as they grapple with the loss. Dave Franco (Now You See Me) portrays the role of Jonah, Morgan's new love interest after the death of her husband. In addition, Mason Thames (Incoming, The Black Phone) plays Miller.
Production on this film will reportedly start sometime in March 2025.

Reminders of Him
After the major success of Sony's It Ends with Us film adaptation, Universal decided it wanted in on the action and announced that it would be turning Hoover's 2022 romance novel Reminders of Him into a movie. This upcoming film adaptation has no stars attached yet nor a director. However, Hoover has co-written the screenplay with Lauren Levine. They will also be producing the film via their Heartbones Entertainment. Universal has set a theatrical release on Feb. 13, 2026.
Reminders of Him revolves around Kenna Rowan, a troubled young mother who returns home to try to rebuild her life after serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake. She hopes to reunite with her 4-year-old daughter, but everyone in her daughter's life refuses to let her. The only person who has been kind to her and can help get her in contact with her daughter is local bar owner Ledger Ward. She and Ledger eventually form a bond that turns into a romantic connection, but the secrets and the pain of the past complicate their relationship.
