3 romance shows to watch instead of the Ball Drop on New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is a time to count down to midnight. Instead of doing it with the Ball Drop, do it with these three romance shows.

When it comes to New Year’s Eve, not everyone wants to spend time watching the Ball Drop. We want to check out some of the shows from the year or even years earlier that we’ve missed. There are some great romance shows to watch instead of the party in Times Square.

There isn’t a lot of time throughout the night. That means you won’t want a show with a lot of seasons, unless you’re looking for something to watch on New Year’s Day as well. With that in mind, we’re choosing shows with four seasons or less to get through the night.

Bridgerton

While you’re not watching the Ball Drop, you still want to feel like you’re in the holiday spirit. You’ll want to pretend that you’re at some sort of holiday ball, and what better way than with an episode or two of Bridgerton? We recommend starting from the very beginning on New Year’s Eve. There are plenty of episodes to get you into the next day as well.

The series follows the Bridgerton siblings. The first season is all about Daphne, as her family searches for the perfect husband for her. Only, the man her brother Anthony wants her to marry is not the best suitor. What happens when Daphne and Simon, aka The Duke, decide to set their own fates and end up falling for each other?

My Lady Jane

There isn’t a lot of time when it comes to New Year’s Eve, so you may want a show that only has one season. My Lady Jane is a must instead of the Ball Drop. It’s based on the book of the same name, and it brings us an alternate history with a magical twist (or two!).

You know the story of Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Day Queen. Well, what if she didn’t stick around to have her future father-in-law’s plans play out? What if she chose to take control of her own destiny, and she actually ended up officially crowned Queen of England? There’s a love story in there with Guildford Dudley, who isn’t the Dudley son she initially assumes.

You

How about a twisted romance show? There are plenty of them, and the one you need to watch instead of the Ball Drop is You. After all, the fifth season is going to drop in 2025. This is a good time to play catch-up.

This is an anti-romance series. Penn Badgley plays Joe Goldberg, a man who ends up with an obsession over woman. That obsession turns dangerous, and it could even involve murder. Over the course of the four seasons so far, we’ve seen Joe gain multiple obsessions and even travel to different countries to follow those he “loves.”
