Cruel Intentions season 1 ending explained: Did Lucien meet Sebastian's fate?
The first season of Cruel Intentions is now available to binge-watch on Prime Video. It brings some favorite throwbacks to the original movie, but it also allows for the show to develop a world of its own.
The series introduced us to Caroline and Lucien, stepsiblings at college who are in it for power. Like in the original movie, they set a bet. If Lucien can seduce the Vice President’s daughter, Annie, then he gets to be with Caroline, something she knows he desperately craves. It’s a mission Lucien is more than willing to take on, but he soon realizes that there is someone in Annie that he likes.
Caroline exposes Lucien’s secrets to Annie in Cruel Intentions
Of course, Caroline can’t lose the bet. She decides to set things up in a way to force Lucien to lose. Why not tell Annie all about Lucien’s mom taking her own life? It’s something that Lucien has had to deal with mentally, being the one to find his mom, and it’s always played on him.
To get back at Caroline, he decided to sleep with her mom. After all, Caroline’s mom, his own stepmom, kept coming onto him. She was never going to say no to Lucien. All the while, it was a huge “F U” moment to Caroline, who had spent her whole life trying to get her mom’s love and attention. He also recorded the whole thing and sent it to Caroline to make sure she knew all about it.
As this went on, Annie realized that it was likely Caroline who got Professor Chadwick in trouble. Caroline realized Cece’s attraction to the professor and decided to mess with them. Caroline just can’t allow others to be happy if it means not worshipping the ground she walks on. Cece hasn’t figured everything out yet, but there has to come a time when she realizes that she doesn’t want to be treated the way Caroline treats her. There is something good out there!
What happens to Lucien in Cruel Intentions?
We all know Sebastian's fate in the original Cruel Intentions movie. Just as he realizes his feelings for Annette and tries to get to her to explain it all, he is hit by a car and killed. The movie ends with Annette driving his car with the diary beside her. We also see that he has a missed call from Annie, but is this intentional or a genuine missed call?
Well, Lucien makes it through to the end of Cruel Intentions on Prime Video, you’ll be happy to hear. He’s the one driving off into the sunset, with Caroline’s cross necklace. It means he can come back and cause more problems for his stepsister, who tried to call him at the end but was put straight to voicemail.
While Cruel Intentions hasn’t been officially renewed just yet, it’s clear that there is more to bring within this world. The war has only just begun. The question is whether the show managed to get the attention it needed right away to score that second season.
Cruel Intentions is available to stream on Prime Video.
