Kedar Williams-Stirling and Yara Shahidi are in talks to star in romance film Bloom
We have exciting news for fans of romance films! Kedar Williams-Stirling (Sex Education) and Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) are reportedly in talks to star in Bloom, an upcoming coming-of-age romance movie to be directed by Cole Swanson in his feature debut. Swanson will be directing the film from a screenplay he wrote.
Williams-Stirling is best known for starring as Jackson Marchetti in the hit Netflix teen series Sex Education. He also had roles in other TV series like Wolfblood, Roots and Will. Shahidi is known for starring as Zoey Johnson in the ABC comedy sitcom Black-ish and its spinoff series Grown-ish. She also starred in the leading role of Jane in the romantic comedy-drama film Sitting in Bars with Cake.
Also in discussions to join the cast are actors such as Keith Powers and Renée Elise Goldsberry. You might recognize Powers from his previous role as Tyree in Straight Outta Compton. He also played the role of Cameron Drake in the Netflix teen romantic comedy #Realityhigh and as Eric in the Netflix rom-com The Perfect Find. His most recent role was portraying David in the sci-fi drama flick Uglies.
Now, there's no way you don't know who Renée Elise Goldsberry is. She's a Tony and Grammy Award winner known for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway production of the musical Hamilton. You might've also watched her recently in the musical comedy series Girls5eva.
Pineloft Entertainment is developing Bloom and will be producing it alongside Jolene Rodriguez of Broken English Productions. Additionally, 1PLUS1 Productions and Adam Strawford have joined as music consultants.
Bloom follows a young and talented Black artist named Ace, who moves to Tuscany, Italy after getting a scholarship to attend a university. While there, he finds himself entangled in the world of "The Casa Rosa Kids," a rebellious group of wealthy young Black adults. He also finds himself forming unexpected friendships and sparking a passionate romance.
According to Deadline, Williams-Stirling will take on the lead role of Ace if he is officially cast in the film. It's unknown who the others would be playing, though.
