LAID brought us a hilarious tale of a woman who had to warn her exes that there was a chance they would die. While warning them, she also needed to figure out what was going on. Was it all explained by the LAID season 1 finale?

The problem with TV shows is that they need to leave cliffhangers for a potential second season. Was there a chance that we would get to the end of this comedy drama series without finding out why Ruby’s exes were dying?

Fortunately not, but there was a cliffhanger. Let’s take a look at what was going on in Ruby’s life in LAID season 1.

LAID season 1 told us there was a curse

It turned out that it wasn’t just some freak thing affecting Ruby’s exes. There was an actual curse put on her. As you would expect, the curse came from one of Ruby’s exes, Brad. AJ found a video of Brad, Ruby’s drunken colleague, as he bragged about placing a hex on her. With more digging, AJ found out that the two hooked up a few times, and then Ruby just dropped Brad like a hot potato and found someone else. He resented her for that, and so he found a witch and used her to put the curse on Ruby.

Well, the witch did it, but she didn’t tell Brad what the terms of the curse would be. He was too drunk to even care, and it’s not like he believed in the curse.

Can Ruby break the curse in LAID?

It turns out that the curse can’t be broken. When Ruby and AJ track down the witch, she shares that curses can only be transferred to another person. Ruby needs to find someone to pass the curse onto, but over this time of hunting down her exes and falling out with AJ at one point, she’s becoming a more ethical and nicer person.

She needs to pass on the curse to someone, though. It’s getting close to Zack’s turn, who is currently AJ’s boyfriend but someone Ruby slept with when AJ and Zack were on a break—that’s why they end up falling out for a while. Ruby also has a major crush on her client, Isaac, and she wants to lift the curse to be with him.

So, she decides to pass on the curse to Jill Blanch, Ruby and AJ’s elderly neighbor. They need a lock of hair and an item recently touched by the person, and then Ruby will need to wait to see if her exes keep dying. It seems to work, and an elderly man even dies, who Ruby and AJ believe is a former lover of Jill. So, Ruby thinks that she’s safe to sleep with Isaac.

How does LAID season 1 end?

Of course, it’s not as easy as that. AJ learns that Ruby’s ex-boyfriend Jason has died. Now Zack is officially the next person in line, and Isaac will also end up on the chopping block.

LAID season 1 ends with a shocking discovery. Ruby’s father turns up to say that he once suffered the same curse and that’s why Ruby’s mom died. It’s why her dad left her to figure out a way to deal with the curse, and Ruby is so hurt by all this that she doesn’t know whether to allow him to help her situation or not.

We now need LAID season 2 to find out how it all plays out. Can Ruby finally get rid of the curse before it’s too late?

LAID is available to stream on Peacock.
