Grey's Anatomy is giving us the 'ship we need and it's too late

Mika and Jules are adorable together and it's the 'ship we need. But it's too late in Grey's Anatomy.

Mika is finally getting the storylines that she deserves in Grey’s Anatomy. One of those is her new relationship with Jules.

At the end of season 20, the two kissed. It was awkward, and we had to wait until season 21 to see how it would all play out. And yet, during the summer, we learned that Midori Francis would leave the series. She’ll have an exit storyline, at least, but it means we shouldn’t get too invested in things.

Mika and Jules is the relationship we need to see in Grey’s Anatomy

There are a lot of reasons we need to see this ‘ship happen. It being one of the only LGBT relationships in the series is one of them. Grey’s has an issue with LGBT relationships. We’ve had the odd ones teased or happen here and there, but they’ve never been anything substantial or lasting. The closest we had was Arizona and Callie, and they broke up only to get back together off-screen. At least, we assume they are still together.

Mika and Jules also offer us a look at how people can go from somewhat competitors to friends to lovers. Their relationship is new and exciting, and there is so much hope, but it’s not come out of nowhere. We got to see how Mike and Jules got to know each other when they ended up studying together.

Both of them even had their own relationships in season 20, but it was clear there wasn’t much lasting in either of them. Jules didn’t want to get too serious with Blue, and Mika and Helm could never really work once Helm came back to the hospital. Mika and Jules seem to have found their person.

And it’s all too late. With Francis leaving the series soon, it means we’re losing one half of this ‘ship. Maybe a long-distance relationship could work, but when have we known that to be successful in this series?  So, it’s going to end up being yet another LGBT relationship that is doomed to fail. Great.

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
