Hands up if you’re still waiting for The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3. While we know the wait should be over by this summer, it doesn’t make said wait much easier.
There are other shows and movies to check out while we wait. It’s important to watch something with plenty of seasons or with more than one movie in the franchise. After all, we know that we need to wait a few more months.
Here are our four suggestions, and you won’t be disappointed with the number of seasons available with one of the shows on the list!
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
With The Summer I Turned Pretty being based on a book series by Jenny Han, you’ll want to turn to another book series by the same author. The To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy was turned into a movie trilogy on Netflix, and you can watch all three now.
This series of movies follows Lara Jean Covey, who finds her life turned upside down on her head when her younger sister Kitty decides to mail out all the letters she’s ever written to the boys she’s “loved.” One of those is Peter Kavinsky, the jock of the high school who has never shown any interest in LJ. The two end up in a fake relationship, but of course, that fake relationship turns into a real one.
Over the course of the three movies, we see if teen love is supposed to last. What happens when they have different ideas about college, or when other guys LJ has written to show up?
After this, follow on with the Netflix series XO, Kitty. This one follows Kitty as she heads to South Korea to school and realizes that love isn’t as easy as she thought it was as a kid.
The Kissing Booth
Another Netflix trilogy to get stuck into is The Kissing Booth. Joey King stars as Elle Evans, who signs up for the kissing booth at her school. When she ends up kissing her long-term crush, the two decide it’s time to give their relationship a go.
Of course, things aren’t always that easy in teen romances. College gets in the way, there are other girls who want to date Noah, and there’s even another love interest for Elle. Can the two figure out how to make things work, or is this just one of those relationships that fizzles out after high school?
All three movies are now available on Netflix. It’s a great option if you’re looking for something that involves love triangles and the summer vibe.
The Vampire Diaries
I promised you a show with a lot of seasons. The Vampire Diaries is a must for those looking for a story that involves a love triangle with two brothers. In this one, Elena Gilbert falls in love with Stefan Salvatore and then his brother, Damon.
There is a lot more to the story. This isn’t your typical high school romance series. It involves vampires, werewolves, witches, and more. You see, Elena is the spitting image of a vampire known as Katherine Pierce, a former love of both Stefan and Damon. As Stefan falls for Elena, Damon searches for a way to get Katherine out of the tomb that she’s supposed to have been in for the last 100+ years.
There are eight seasons of the series. The last two seasons don’t include Elena as Nina Dobrev chose to leave the show, but there is an ending to the story and plenty of romance to go around. You’ll likely fall for Klaroline before the end of the series!
The Wilds
Would you prefer something that has the summer vibe but not quite the romance to it? Maybe something that includes a little bit of romance, but isn’t fully focused on that? Well, you’ll need to turn to The Wilds on Prime Video. The first season is excellent!
The series follows a group of eight girls who end up in a plane crash on an island. When one of them dies from injuries sustained in the crash, the other seven need to figure out how to survive. This leads to romantic feelings to surface between two of the girls, a sisterly bond needing to reform, and much more.
This is one of those shows that brings a mixture of coming-of-age and survival. It’s all on an island that looks to be in the middle of somewhere hot, bringing the summery vibes. It’s not a holiday, though, and there’s clearly something bigger going on.
