Teddy and Owen not working things out in Grey's Anatomy could be a good thing

We usually want relationships to work out on Grey's Anatomy. However, Teddy and Owen splitting up could actually be better for the series—and for our sanity!

Not every relationship works out. We’ve seen it all the time with Grey’s Anatomy. There are multiple ships that we would love to continue forever, but they simply don’t work. It looks like the show has that with Teddy and Owen.

For the last few episodes, we’ve seen Owen and Teddy face marriage counselling. They’re trying to make things work, and I do respect that. Nobody should just throw in the towel just because a marriage has gotten a little difficult. We need to see that working on a marriage and communicating is a good thing—and it’s needed.

At the same time, there’s nothing wrong with the two of them realizing that they’re not the right fit. It could save us some headaches along the way.

Friends don’t make the best partners in Grey’s Anatomy

Not all friendships have to turn into something romantic. Just look at Meredith and Alex. The two of them became the best of friends. After Cristina left, they became each other’s person, and they made it clear to all partners that neither was a threat.

Friendships can stay as friendships. There is no way that Meredith and Alex would have worked as a couple, and I never felt like Owen and Teddy worked as a couple back when the two were introduced. They were great as friends, but really, that’s the way it should have stayed.

Friends don’t always make the best partners. A good marriage is based on friendship, but that doesn’t mean best friends should be together. Sometimes, you know someone a little too well, and those quirks eventually get on your nerves. Plus, once you’ve crossed that line, it’s almost impossible to get that friendship back, and you’ve ended up losing your person.

Teddy and Owen just aren’t right for each other on Grey’s Anatomy

Let’s be honest; do these two actually work? They are great when they’re on the same side in the medical field. They can bounce off ideas with each other, and they do support one another when it comes to careers and jobs. This could make them work, but they are so different when it comes to personalities.

Owen jumps to conclusions far too quickly. He takes words out of context and he forms an opinion without all the information. Meanwhile, Teddy doesn’t take everything into consideration and bumbles through everything in life. Look at the way she told Owen about Cass kissing her—why tell someone that when they’ve just woken up?

Teddy acts on impulse far too much, and that doesn’t work with Owen jumping to conclusions too quickly. Neither of them seems willing to work on these flaws in themselves, and that means their relationship can’t work. There’s nothing wrong with the two of them admitting this, though. We don’t all want to change who we are, even if it means we can’t be with the person we think we love.

Let’s not forget that Teddy has already cheated on Owen. And then there’s the fact that Owen cheated on Cristina, so he has form for this. Can two people who aren’t all that trustworthy really work things out? Of course, maybe the two should stay together to protect others, but that’s just a headache for us watching and it drags drama on for way too long.

Grey’s Anatomy should just split the two up. It stops the same old thing from happening, and it shows the same thing that life does: friends should often just stay friends.

Grey’s Anatomy is available to stream on Netflix and Hulu if you need to catch up!
