Netflix, 3000 Pictures, and Temple Hill have teamed up to make a film adaptation of Henry's 2021 novel of the same name. Brett Haley (All the Bright Places, All Together Now) will direct from a screenplay written by Emmy-nominated writer and director Yulin Kuang (Love on Iceland).
The story centers around two longtime best friends, Poppy and Alex, who are complete opposites but still get along great. For a decade, they have taken an annual summer vacation together. However, something goes wrong during one of their vacations, and they stop speaking to each other for two years. They don't start talking again until Poppy reaches out one day and proposes one last trip in an attempt to rekindle their friendship. While on the trip, they navigate the complexities of their relationship and confront their unresolved feelings.
Emily Bader and Tom Blyth take on the leading roles of Poppy and Alex. The rest of the cast is made up of Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, Alice Lee, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon.

Beach Read
Back in April 2023, we learned that Henry's 2020 romance novel Beach Read would be turned into a movie for 20th Century Studios with Original Film producing. Yulin Kuang had signed on as writer and director.
Beach Read revolves around two writers of different genres, January and Augustus, who are having a tough time in their personal lives. January is a romance writer, while Augustus is a literary writer with a reputation for writing deep, thought-provoking stories. They become neighbors for the summer, living in beach houses next to each other.
To help each other overcome their writer's block, they decide to swap genres. January will spend the summer writing a serious novel, while Augustus will try his hand at writing a romance novel. As they spend time together working on their books, they eventually find themselves developing feelings for each other.

Book Lovers
In March 2023, Tango Entertainment, one of the production companies behind the comedy-drama Shortcomings, announced that it would be adapting Henry's 2022 novel Book Lovers into a feature film. Sarah Heyward (Girls) was revealed to be writing the script, with Tango producing.
Book Lovers follows a successful yet workaholic literary agent named Nora Stephens, who becomes convinced by her beloved little sister to spend the month of August in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for a sisters' trip away. While there, she runs into Charlie Lastra, a fellow literary agent known for being her professional rival. As they spend time together in the small town, they begin to understand each other better and bond over their love of books and their experiences in the publishing world.

Funny Story
In July 2024, it was announced that Emily Henry would be adapting her most recent romance novel Funny Story for the big screen. The feature film adaptation comes from Lyrical Media and Ryder Pictures Company, and Henry will write the script as well as executive produce. Jon Rosenberg joins Henry as an executive producer, while Alexander Black, Natalie Sellers, Aaron Ryder, and Andrew Swett will produce.
Funny Story revolves around children’s librarian Daphne, who finds her life in shambles after being broken up with by her fiancé Peter. After parting ways, Peter doesn't waste any time hopping into a new relationship with his childhood best friend, Petra, making the breakup sting even worse. With no place to go, Daphne becomes roommates with Miles Nowak, Petra's ex-boyfriend, and together, they devise a fake dating scheme to make their exes jealous. However, they find themselves falling in love in the process.

Happy Place
There's only one series adaptation in the works so far of one of Emily Henry's books. It's the 2023 novel Happy Place. Jennifer Lopez's production company, Nuyorican Productions, will be adapting the romance book into a series at Netflix. Leila Cohan (Bridgerton) has signed on as showrunner and will co-write the scripts for the series. In addition, Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina will produce.
Happy Place centers around two exes, Harriet and Wyn, who pretend to still be a couple during a week-long vacation with their friends. But as the week unfolds, they are forced to confront their past and their unresolved feelings.
